The Special Collection covers the region of the state of Israel today as well as historic Palestine. In 1964 this Special Collection was seperated from the Special Collection Judaism (SSG 7.7) and now holds the largest collection of research literature on Israel in the Federal Republic. All publications including Hebrew on the modern state of Israel are collected and stocks of the important periodicals are maintained.
All areas of knowledge are collected in the SSG with the exception of modern law, medicine and natural sciences. The entire literary production of the state of Israel is collected.

Catalogues, new acquisitions lists
The stocks on Israel at the Universitätsbibliothek are recorded in the library's general catalogues, periodicals are listed completely in the Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB).Hebrew titles are transliterated . Furthermore, users can compile their own lists of new acquisitions for the SSG Israel.
The majority of books are in closed stacks and have to be ordered a day in advance.
External users ought to inquire first of all by post, fax or email whether the books are available or they should contact the special collection specialist ( Tel: 069/ 798-39 665), the Information Desk (Tel: 069/ 798-39 205) or the Reading Room (Tel: 069/ 798-39 247).
Please note that the Reading Room for Judaism belongs to the Special Reading Rooms with restricted opening times.
The location of literature on Israel in the Reading Room is under HB 24/ or HM 24/ and comprises mainly bibliographies, reference works, introductory foundation literature and periodicals.
