General information, Collection Principle

The special collection Oceania covers the entire South Pacific and the pre-American Hawaii, as well as literature on the Aborigines in Australia and the Maoris in New Zealand.

All sectors are covered except economics, modern law, modern medicine and the natural sciences.

The Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt a.M. buys as comprehensively as possible the literature about Oceania as well as the scientific or source literature from those states which belong to the collecting area. Approximately 900 bibliographic units are bought annually.

Catalogues, new acquisitions lists

The Oceania stocks of the Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt a.M. are listed in the general catalogues of the library, the periodicals are listed in total in the OPAC and in the Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB)periodicals database.

Furthermore, users can compile their lists of new acquisitions for the Special Collection Oceania.

User information

Most of the books and material cannot be picked up immediately as they are in the closed stacks. The titles have to be ordered a few days in advance with the usual order slips.

External visitors are advised to make enquiries beforehand about their books by post, fax or e-mail or to get in touch directly with the person in charge of the special collection (Tel. 069/ 798-39 246), the Information Desk (Tel. 069/ 798-39 205) or with the Reading Room (Tel. 069/ 798-39 247).

In our Reading Room we do provide WLAN and a special PC for research in databases.

The Asia Reading Room is a special Reading Room with restricted opening hours.
