Special Collections of the DFG
Each year over 800.000 books and periodicals are published worldwide; given this mammoth number no library is in the position to be able to finance the acquisition of all the new publications from home and abroad. However, so that each scientific relevant publication is at least archived once somewhere in Germany the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - [German Research Council] furthers a unique system: the Special Collections Libraries.
Each field of knowledge is assigned to a specific library in Germany; this collects as comprehensively as possible literature published worldwide for its special field. Please refer to the detailed information given in the WWW-informationsystem WEBIS about which libraries are responsible for which field and about all the other special collection areas.
The Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main supervises the following special areas for the DFG:
- 6.31 Africa South of the Sahara
- 6.32 Oceania
- 7.11 General linguistics, comparative linguistics
- 7.12 General and comparative literature studies
- 7.20 Germanic studies, German language and literature
- 7.60 Israel
- 7.70 Judaism
- 9.30 Theatre studies and film
- 12 Biology [German]
