General information

The special collection treated here covers «Theatre studies» and «Film». With the general development of special collections being established by the DFG in the fifties the special collections 9.3 «Theatre studies» and 9.4 «Film», «Radio», «Television» were launched and existed in this form until the end of 1997.

As from 1998 «Radio» and «Television» was delegated to the University Library of Leipzig to develop the new special collection 3.5 «Studies in publications, the media and mass communications». The remaining part at the Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main »Film« was then amalgamated with the special collection 9.3. The special collection code 9.4 was discontinued. The Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek collected literature for the section which was handed over until end of 1997; the University of Leipzig took over acquisition as from 1998.

The Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main has been developing extensive special collections within «Theatre Studies» and «Film» since the 50ies by stocking up with competent retrospective acquisitions. Thus one of the largest collections of these areas in Germany is housed here and both these areas are collected in continuation.
