Judaica Librarian - FID Jewish Studies

JANUARY 2023 - We are looking for a Judaica librarian (E11) to join our team at the University Library Frankfurt am Main. This is a temporary position for 30 months.
The librarian supports all services of the FID and is particularly responsible for Cataloguing, including Subject Indexing and Authority Data as well as maintaining and mapping subject specific vocabularies. The position requires a degree in Information and Library Science (or equivalent) and substantial knowledge in Jewish Studies or a degree in Jewish Studies (at least B.A. or equivalent) and experience as a librarian. Good command of Hebrew is required as well.

Director for the House of Jewish Culture Essen

JANUARY 2023 - The City of Essen invites applications for the position of a director of the House of Jewish Culture - "Old Synagogue". The House of Jewish Culture Essen promotes and supports collaborations between various cultural institutions, maintains close contact to institutions and representatives of the city's Jewish cultural life and is tasked to host exhibitions, workshops and research projects. This is a full-time, permanent position (15 TVöD).

FID Jewish Studies Funding extended

JULY 2022 - The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved the third project phase of the Specizialized Information Service (FID) for Jewish Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main
The three-year project phase will be funded with 1.6 Million Euros and enables the FID Jewish Studies to further develop its service for researchers in all fields of Jewish Studies, including Israel Studies, for scholar from other fields of the Humanities and Social Sciences engaged in research on Judaism and Jewish life in the past and the present, and for museums, archives and libraries with relevant Herbaria and Judaica collections. Providing access to literature, sources and digital databases will continue to be a key feature of the FIDs work.
The FID for Jewish Studies is a collaboration between the University Library at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and Professor Dr. Kai Eckert from the Hochschule für Medien Stuttgart.

New Database: Yerusha - European Jewish Archives Portal

JUNE 2022 - Yerusha (Hebrew for "inheritance") is a new online platform uniting Jewish archival heritage held in hundreds of archives, libraries and museums across Europe. This database features thousands of in-depth archival descriptions giving researchers access to a wealth of records covering all major subjects of Jewish history. Yerusha is an initiative of the Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe.

The Ben Gurion Archive - New Digital Ressource

May 2022 - The Ben-Gurion Archive was founded in the 1970s to preserve the memory to the first prime minister of Israel. The Archive is run by the Ben-Gurion Heritage Institute and the Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism at Ben Gurion University of the Negev. The archive includes collections of Ben Gurion's journals, correspondences (circa 1900-1973), speeches, protocols of organizations and institutions he served in throughout his life as well as audio and video clips.
