How to publish your dissertation
You have several possibilities to publish your dissertation:
Your faculty may have further requirements. Please note the regulations of the departments
- Convert file to PDF/A-document - please find instructions for creating a PDF/A document here (German language only; 2.1MB).
If the work in the printed version includes a CV or other personal data, e.g. a thank you note or declarations, we recommend removing these in the electronic version intended for publication - do not black out the relevant sections, as these can be made visible again using a PDF editing tool.
Submission of university publications: technical requirements
- Text part as 1 PDF/A document, for multi-volume works 1 PDF/A document per volume.
The abstract (preferably German and English) may contain a maximum of 5000 characters; this will be entered into the form on the university publication server during the upload process. It is not necessary to submit it as a separate file. - If it is not possible to create a PDF/A file, a file in PDF format can also be submitted.
Technical requirements::- The file names of the PDF/A or PDF documents must not contain any umlauts, special characters or spaces. The file name is displayed in the university publication server; it is no longer possible to change the file name once the document has been published.
- PDF/A or PDF documents must not have any security settings (password protection). This is of the utmost importance for long-term archiving.
- Multimedia objects can be added in all current multimedia formats:
Graphics:
- TIFF
- JPG bzw. JPEG
- PNG
- RM
- WMV
- Quicktime (Mac OS)
- MP3
- WMA

- Register file and upload
- You have to hand in your documents at the » Hochschulschriftenstelle der UB (University Library′s Academic Publications Office):
- signed » Einverständniserklärung (declaration of consent)
- 1 bound paper copy
- on acid-free, permanent paper (according to DIN ISO 9706)
- in DIN A 4 or A 5 format
- with single threadless binding (no staples, no spiral binding, no clamp binding)
- enter/add date of disputation (also possible in written form)
- The confirmation of receipt for the submitted copies will be sent by the University Library′s Academic Publications Office (Monday-Friday) to the responsible doctoral office by in-house mail. If you would like to receive the confirmation of receipt in person when you hand in your copies, please make an appointment in advance.
