| 1929 - 1934 | Study of philosophy, religious sciences, German, history and geography in Königsberg and Munich |
| 1933 | Obtained his PhD in Königsberg, was awarded the Kant prize |
| 1934 - 1936 | Assistant in Königsberg |
| 1936-1945 | Military service, active service during the War, becomes wounded, suffers imprisonment, released to habilitate |
| 1943 | Habilitation in Berlin |
| 1945 - 1950 | Assistant lecturer in Göttingen |
| 1950 - 1959 | Unscheduled professor in Köln |
| seit 1959 | Professor for philosophy and director of the philosophical seminar at the University of Frankfurt am Main |
| 1986 | Dies in Frankfurt am Main on 15th January |
