Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), philosopher, is considered one of the most influential philosophers of the 19th century. The collection in the former Frankfurt City Library was established after Schopenhauer's death in 1860. In addition, the Schopenhauer-Gesellschaft e.V. (Schopenhauer Society), founded in 1911, donated its part of the collection to the Frankfurt City Library on permanent loan in 1921. The collection contains original documents from family members Heinrich Floris Schopenhauer, Johanna Schopenhauer, and Adele Schopenhauer. |
