
Diamond Open Access
Diamond Open Access (OA) means publications and publishing platforms, that can be read and accessed by everybody in the world for free, and for which no costs incur for authors. Diamond OA is the easiest and fairest form of OA, since nobody is restricted from participating in the scholarly discourse by paywalls.
The university library supports numerous Diamond OA initiatives, including the following publishers and platforms that we sincerely recommend as publishing venues:

Open Library of Humanities
The Open Library of Humanities is a constantly growing platform for journals from the humanities and cultural studies. The University Library has supported the OLH for many years, since 2024 as a “Gold super-supporter” -
SciPost (link opens in new tab)
SciPost aims to offer a platform for journals from multiple disciplines. Some physics journals are already well-established. -
SCOAP³
SCOAP³ is an international consortium formed to support Open Access in the area of high energy physics. Operating since 2014, the project has achieved that the major part of all high energy physics journal articles is published in Open Access. -
Open Book Publishers
A Cambridge-based publisher for OA books that are free to publish or read for authors or readers. -
Language Science Press
Language Science Press publishes high quality peer reviewed OA books from the field of linguistics. -
Open Library Politikwissenschaft of transcript-Verlag
Since 2019 books from the political science section of transcript publishing are published in Open Access to no cost for the authors. This pioneering project is financed through approximately 40 academic libraries. -
KOALA
The KOALA project supports smaller journals in publishing sustainably in Diamond Open Access. The University Library participates in all current KOALA consortia.
The journals hosted by the University Library also are published in Diamond Open Access.
